    School Board Candidate

  • Why do you want to serve on the school board?

I want to serve on the school board to continue to be an advocate for our students and our staff. As a current school board member, I have learned a lot in the past 3 ½ years. I learned a lot and believe as a father of 4 I bring a diverse perspective that helps address the needs of the families in Sauk Centre. I am invested in the long-term vision, contributing to the strategic planning and decision making to help shape the future of the school system to align it with the community values and goals.

What do you think are the top 3 priority issues that need to be addressed?

I am highlighting 3 of the top priorities, I do not consider these issues.

    Top priorities:

    - Ensuring all students receive a high-quality education and have access to resources that support their learning and growth.

    - Long-term planning, including effective budget management supporting strategic goals for the future of the school district, facility and technology integration.

    - Staff support and development to enhance effectiveness and job satisfaction.

Choose one of the items listed above, what is your proposed plan to address it?

Ensuring all students receive a high-quality education and have access to resources that support their learning and growth. My proposed plan to support this priority would be to evaluate, collaborate, and support.

    - Evaluate the current performance.

    - Collaborate with faculty to understand what has worked, what they need to improve and discuss potential action items.

    - Support the empowered leadership team to deliver and continue to evaluate student progress.

How do you prioritize trades programming (healthcare, mechanical, construction etc) in your middle and high schools?

Trades are important programs for our students and well supported in our community. We ensure our curriculum aligns with state standards and address both academic and practical skills. Our local businesses are invested with our school to create real-world experience and career exploration opportunities.

Our community has invested in enhanced facilities to expand our programming creating a conducive learning environment.

How would you define excellence in education?

Excellence in education can be defined by a commitment to student-centered learning, where the diverse needs and interests of all students are prioritized. It involves establishing high academic standards that challenge learners while providing the necessary support for success. Qualified and engaged staff are key, inspiring students and creating a love for learning. A holistic approach ensures that students develop socially, emotionally, and physically, creating well-rounded individuals.

Enabling access to opportunities for all with a continuous improvement process. Improving through reflection and feedback, strong community and family engagement, hands-on experiences, and adaptability to new educational trends contribute to a framework where students are empowered to reach their potential and thrive.
