What motivated you to run for office, and what perspective or experience would you bring to city leadership?

Six years ago, I chose to put down roots in Sauk Centre, and since then, this community has truly become home. I am running for City Council because I want to play an active role in shaping the future of the community I have chosen to live and raise my family in. I want to see Sauk Centre continue to grow and prosper for generations to come. That means supporting a strong local business economy, encouraging thoughtful community development, investing in the amenities and services that make Sauk Centre a great place to live, and making responsible decisions that position our city for long term success. I believe I would bring a fresh and balanced perspective to City Council. I am naturally diplomatic and believe good leadership starts with listening, considering different viewpoints, and finding practical solutions that serve the community as a whole. Through my current service on the Sauk Centre Parks and Recreation Board, I have gained firsthand experience with local government and the importance of thoughtful decision-making and responsible stewardship of community resources. Most importantly, I am an active member of this community and genuinely invested in its future. I want Sauk Centre to be a place where businesses want to invest, families want to put down roots, and residents are proud to call home. I would be honored to bring my perspective, experience, and commitment to the City Council and help ensure Sauk Centre continues to flourish in the years ahead.

What does a business-friendly community look like to you, and where do you believe Sauk Centre is currently succeeding or has room to improve?

To me, a business-friendly community is one where businesses, residents,and local government work together to create an environment where businesses can succeed. It means having business neighbors who support one another, residents who make an effort to shop locally, and a city that is welcoming and approachable to both existing businesses and those looking to invest in our community. I believe Sauk Centre already has a lot to offer. One of our greatest strengths is the variety of locally owned businesses that give our community its character and provide something for residents and visitors alike. We can continue building on that strength by encouraging people to shop locally, promoting our businesses to visitors and tourists, and making sure Sauk Centre remains a place where entrepreneurs feel supported. I also believe there is room to broaden the diversity of businesses in Sauk Centre. We should be looking at what goods, services, industries, and opportunities residents currently have to leave town to find and consider how we can attract more of those opportunities here. A diverse and growing business community not only strengthens our local economy but also creates jobs, attracts visitors, and makes Sauk Centre an even more desirable place for families and businesses to put down roots.

Looking ahead five years, what would you like Sauk Centre to be known for, and what role should the City Council play in helping the community reach that vision?

I would like Sauk Centre to be known as a thriving and welcoming community where people want to live, raise their families, start businesses, and put down roots. I want us to be known for supporting our local businesses while continuing to attract new and diverse opportunities, investing in our community, and maintaining the small town character that makes Sauk Centre such a great place to call home. The City Council's role in reaching that vision is to listen to residents and business owners, encourage thoughtful growth and development, and make responsible decisions with the long term future of Sauk Centre in mind.

The upcoming Highway 71 reconstruction will bring long-term improvements but may create significant disruptions for local businesses. What should the city do before, during, and after construction to maintain access, communicate effectively and help businesses remain visible and successful?

I would say before construction, the city should prioritize clear communication with business owners and residents regarding timelines, access, and anticipated disruptions. During construction, we should provide consistent updates on detours and parking while helping businesses remain visible through signage, social media, and continued encouragement to shop and dine locally. After construction, the city should promote the improved corridor and gather feedback from businesses and residents on what worked and what we can learn for future projects. While we may not be able to eliminate every inconvenience, the city can be a strong partner by communicating, listening, and helping our local businesses remain accessible and successful throughout the process.

What is one action you support during your first year in office that could strengthen Sauk Centre's economy or business community?

One action I would support during my first year is creating more opportunities for communication between the city, local businesses, and residents. I would like to hear what our businesses need to succeed, while also learning what goods, services, and opportunities our residents would like to see available locally. By bringing those perspectives together, we can better identify gaps in our local economy, support the businesses already invested in Sauk Centre, and explore opportunities to attract new businesses that meet the needs of our community. I believe economic growth is strongest when both residents and businesses have a voice in shaping it.
