Three words that define you?
Ethical, a critical thinker, and Collaborative.
Why are you running for the City Council, and what related experience do you bring to the table that makes you uniquely qualified?
I am running for city council because I believe in strong community connections, supporting local businesses, being a voice for those who feel unheard, and ensuring Sauk Centre stays prosperous. I have previous employment experience working with budgets and allocation of those funds. I currently serve on the Sauk Centre Parks and Recreation board that helps strengthen my ability to collaborate with different people and ideas.
Do you think it is important to have a competitive business climate and how can we improve our competitiveness to make sure private sector businesses can start and grow in our community?
Yes, I think having a competitive business climate is important. A competitive business climate helps ensure businesses are utilizing new marketing strategies to entice consumers to support their business versus the competition. This leads business to offer goods and services at lower prices for consumers ensuring a healthy Law of Demand. Using favorable financing options for business would be a great incentive to ensure more private businesses can start up and grow. Available real estate and office space would also be needed to provide opportunity for business growth in the community.
Name the two or three most critical issues you believe the City of Sauk Centre faces and how would you address those issues?
1. Economic growth - we need to keep growing local businesses to offer more workplace opportunities, foster collaboration between businesses and community organizations to identify growth areas, invest in infrastructure to keep the city well-maintained, and promote tourism for economic stimulation.
2. Affordable housing options - to grow the population of Sauk Centre to increase the revenue in the city is vital to prosperity.
How would you engage the business community as you weigh your decisions?
I plan to keep supporting the local businesses around Sauk Centre and encouraging those around me to do the same. I believe an open line of communication would be beneficial as well for transparency.
